well that wasn't the plan
my mom's birthday was earlier this month, so Justin and i headed down a couple of saturdays ago to spend the weekend in Monterey. the weather was supposed to be great, so we planned to do some work around the house and then go to brunch (and take Maddy) on sunday morning.
well, i had this headache that had been bothering me most of the week but on friday (the 17th) it seemed to be gone after a dose of ibuprofen. by the time i made it home on friday night the headache had returned, and woke me up a few times on saturday. it was getting worse so after finding out that local clinics didn't accept my insurance, my mom took me to the ER. took 'em a few hours to get a doc to see me, but after some percocet, headache persisted. CT scan was fine (and yeah, finally proof that i have a brain) but the doctor had no idea what was wrong. i think he chalked it up to neuralgia, gave me a shot of dilaudid because i refused an IV - just wanted to get home - and after the meds kicked in i was on my way home.
i sure know how to celebrate a birthday.
got home and went straight to bed - thank you thank you thank you to my folks for taking care of me and running back and forth to Long's. i was on a pretty full dose of dilaudid every 4 hours until i saw a neurologist on monday. he diagnosed the headache as not a migraine, but not much else. since the beast headache was still hanging around, he put me on a dose of prednisone which, ultimately, broke up the headache.
who knows if it was just recovering from the headache, an allergy on top of things, the medicine, or what, but i was absolutely fatigued for a good week. slept all week in Monterey and am finally back in santa cruz today. today is the first day that i've been up more of the day than not, and have found my head coming out of a fog. i hope to get 1/2 a day in at work tomorrow and then go to a full day on wednesday.
i'm hoping for hockey on sunday but don't want to push it. we shall see.

Oh Cheds. That sounds awful. I was hoping to see you at practice tomorrow, but would much rather you get all the way better. Sending healing thoughts your way and hopefully we can skate again soon.
You were missed at the mini-tournament! Very glad to hear that you seem to be emerging from that icky-sounding brainfog. Take care of yourself so we won't have to worry about you! *hugs*
