Hawaii recap
so what i really meant to do was write at least every other day from Hawaii so i could remember what i did on my trip, where i went.
that lasted all of one day, which was the day that Nicole had to go chase down a whale to try to disentangle it. the rest of the time, i found that it was much more relaxing, enjoyable to hang out with my friends.
all in all, it was a great trip. this was the first time i felt like i took a vacation to have it be a vacation. since i'd seen much of Maui on previous trips, i didn't need to fill this with things to do and got to actually relax. and it was great!
we went to the beach a few times to look for shells, and i came back with a nice amount but also tossed many back into the ocean for critters to reuse. i checked out tidepools for the first time and know i'll be doing that again on my next trip. Joey was able to take many days off and we went up country past Kula into PoliPoli. it was a really muddy trip but well worth it. got a great view of the island and saw Ahihi Kinau from above. the Lavender farm was something i had wanted to see and i found a nice lavendar packet for my mom there.
Nicole and i spent a couple of days at her job - making sure that Hawaiian Monk Seals are safe when they come up onto shore to rest. given that there are only about 100 in the main Hawaiian islands, and that i hadn't seen any in previous visits, it was a treat to see several and also watch Nicole do her thing.
i made it home without a hitch and had a few days to recoup at home in Monterey before i headed back to santa cruz and to work. i made it back in time for the last hockey game of the season with Gitterdun. i don't even remember the score but it was fun. of course, a few days later i ended up with a cold/allergy combination that i'm just getting over.
and now it's all back to normal - work, a new hockey season, same ol' same ol'.
