Robby Glantz 3 day power skating clinic: day 1

this is the first time i've done this clinic (or any clinic, actually) and i decided to do so after so many friends recommended it.

day 1: great coaching on forward skating and how to get the most out of each stride. i learned that no matter how much i think i've got my knees bent, they can, and need to bend more. i've also got to focus on getting my stride so that i push out to the side instead of backwards. my arm swing also has to change - more forwards-backwards than side-side.

overall, i went in worried that i had just spent a chunk of money on something that would only help more advanced skaters. i was also worried that there would be such a gap in skill level that i would just be left behind. after 10 minutes of being on the ice, i knew it was completely worth every dollar. the coaches are all very easy to talk to, good natured, and incredibly thorough and helpful. i'm amazed at how well they do their jobs, given that they coach adults and kids. i not only think Robby is a master of his craft, but was born to teach. his lack of ego and teaching approach makes him a unique person - i'm thrilled to be able to learn from someone like him, who works with NHL caliber players (woo, JR and Blakey!) but also wants to help recreational skaters.

pain report: definitely tired, and definitely sore, but overall not too bad.
