winter break recap

first of all, Happy New Year. i hope everybody had a safe and sound holiday season.

i anxiously froze down cells and took care of other things so that i could spend a solid 2 weeks away from work. don't get me wrong, i love my job. it was just time for a break not related to surgery. one of the perks of working on campus is that it is technically shut down between Christmas day and New Year's Day. between that and the fact that my boss is great about letting me take time off, my last day at work in 2008 was the 20th and i returned on January 5.

much of my break felt like a non-vacation, as i was helping my mom with meals, cleaning, etc. for everyone who was in the house. my aunt always comes to spend the holidays with us, and of course Justin was home. Kathi was with us for a portion of the break, too, so we had a full house - at least compared to what we're used to.

my dad has been working on replacing the front deck, so i helped him when i could. my cousin and his family, along with another aunt, came for dinner one night. it was really good to see them - and my dad and his 2 sisters together. :-) just their brother was missing, but he was in Santa Barbara visiting with his kids and grandkids.

my folks had their annual New Year's Day get together and, as usual, it was tons of work. we couldn't do it without my aunt's help, and this year Kathi gave us 2 extra hands so it wasn't as crazy as it had been in past years.

Cindy, my buddy who is currently living in Italy, was home for the holidays. my best bud Nicole, and her husband Joe, who reside in Maui, came for a surprise (but not surprise to me) visit. we spent New Year's Eve together and Joey inspired me to visit them soon, hopefully in March. that will be good, and will feel like more of a vacation than just a break from work.

i got 2 hockey games in over my break and am anxious for more ice time. i'm contemplating a return to AT2, pending my health and the need for skaters. my shoulder is about 75-80% now and i haven't seen any dramatic improvements since my last doctor's visit. but, he said unless it gets worse, there's no need for me to see him. if my shoulder stays healthy, i just hope my knees hold up long enough to get in at least one full season and a Vegas skate.

resolutions? well, i stopped making those a long time ago.

BUT, i do have some goals. some of them include:
- more reading, less PR on fb.
- less tv while trying to fall asleep. this ties in with more reading.
- enjoy the Giants season for what it is and realize that there never will be another player as fun to watch as The Thrill.
- organize pictures from my Italy trip.

happy 2009, y'all!
