throwing Snarfdog a bone...
-Wrapping paper or gift bags? definitely wrapping paper
-Real tree or artificial? more definitely a real tree. i will always remember when we were kids - hunting and hunting for the perfect tree, then cutting it down with Gouda. or, more correctly, attempting to cut it down until Dad finally came to the rescue.
-When do you put up the tree? usually later than any of us intend to - early this year, though. it was in the house on the 15th and trimmed (by my Mom, all by herself) yesterday.
-When do you take the tree down? too early for my liking, but for space reasons we take it down around the 29th to make more room for our new year's day shindig.
-Do you like eggnog? not really. Coke is very festive.
-Favorite gift received? my Dad's doctors at UCSF and in Monterey, for giving us at least 4 (and counting) more holiday seasons with us.
-Do you have a nativity scene? me? come on.
-Hardest person to buy for? parents, though the past two years they've fallen a close second to my aunt, who spends the holidays with us. now that we have Maddy, it's so easy to shop for the folks!
-Easiest person to buy for? Maddy. oh, person? Gouda.
-Worst Christmas gift you ever received? a gift is a gift, be thankful for it. *disclaimer: i did receive a non-Christmas gift from one of my dad's former students once that was just hideous - a cat pin. any attempt to describe the horrific nature of this creation will not do it justice. you'll have to take my word for it.
-Mail or email Christmas cards? lazily, usually none. but if i ever got my act together, mail.
-Favorite Christmas movie? not too big into Christmas movies, but i do like the animated Rudolph one.
-When do you start shopping for Christmas? throughout the year, but i usually forget i have those. so i'll say November.
-Have you ever recycled a Christmas present? nope
-Favorite thing to eat at Christmas? decorated butter cookies. and cranberry sauce - i know that's typically a Thanksgiving thing, but i eat the stuff up so my mom makes it again at Christmas.
-Clear lights or colored on the tree? small, colored lights
-Favorite Christmas song? don't have one
-Travel at Christmas or stay home? stay at home, unless going from santa cruz to monterey counts as travel.
-Can you name all of Santa’s reindeer? um, yeah!
-Angel on the tree top or a star? an elf. my parents got him from Gouda's namesake over 30 years ago - he proudly tops the tree ever year.
-Open the presents Christmas Eve or morning? presents on Christmas eve, stockings on Christmas morning.
-Most annoying thing about this time of year? crowds and trying to get work done when everything else shuts down.
-What I love most about Christmas? spending time with my family and seeing my friend's kids so happy

I totally relate to the tree hunt thing. Bill's family didn't do that, and he so doesn't get it. I proud to report though that my girls are carrying on the tradition. They were so excited to find "the right" tree this year and help Daddy cut it down. It was quite cute. They even wanted one for their own room and how could I deny them? So now they have a tiny little tree on their dresser.
