rawwwwwwrrrrrr!
okay, rant coming. fyi, it's not really of any consequence at all, just me venting about the tiebreak system employed by the folks who host my fantasy baseball league.
yes, it is just fantasy baseball. i get worked up about the Giants and Sharks, but when i put things into perspective, they are just games. and this is just a game based on some of those games. so this should be even lower on the totem pole of things that i get fired up about. but i'm not going to let this one go for a while.
i finish the regular season in first place - yay, but there are still playoffs to go. two weeks into the playoffs, i find myself in the "championship" game that will last an additional 2 weeks long. my opponent in the finale is the person who placed second during the regular season. we're pretty much neck-and-neck the last week and after all of today's games are finished, we are tied at 10. i think that the most logical tiebreaker would be head-to-head matchups during the regular season. we played twice and i beat him both times. i declare myself the champion! but i decided to look at the rules before getting too excited.
even though it's fantasy baseball, it's based on real life statistics and player performances. so why not use real life tiebreakers? well, because it's just fantasy baseball, and doing something sensible would just be, well, silly! the tiebreaker that this company chooses to use: lowest team ERA during the championship game.
HUH? of course, from my reaction, you can guess that i didn't win this category. but wtf, why pick some category out of your ass instead of something that is actually relevant to how the two teams fared, say, how they did when they played each other? or consider that fact that my opponent chose to bench many of his pitchers. that's another argument by itself - i consider it to be a bit bush league, others think it's fine.
in any case, i'm going to rawr about this for a while. and i'll write to said company and complain to them about their completely irrelevant tiebreak system.
