weekend recap

lessee...what was going on this weekend?

in total, 3 trips over the hill and when on the santa cruz side of said hill, i finally saw "waiting for guffman". which, by the way, was hilarious.

trip #1: finally, after many years missing it because of various conflicts, i made it to McJedi and Gerald's "when the ice melts" bbq. it was great! thanks, McJedi and G! i even did a couple of new-to-me things. as i'm sure many of you know, i'm not a daring person and i fear change, both of which tend towards me not doing new-to-me things. okay, okay, so they weren't earth shattering or anything. for one, i got to use the coolest device ever, a cherry pitter. (though, based on the number of cherry pits i missed, i was too excited about the tool and didn't focus enough on the task!) second, i has a buffalo burger. pretty tasty - similar to beef, yet different. oooh, wait - 3 new-to-me things. i finally played a wii! well, "played" as in rode cows vs. Liz, but it was vastly entertaining. methinks i'll have to hunt down a wii for mii once my shoulder is better.

trip #2: went to Los Gatos for brunch. Justin's boss lives there and hosted the brunch for one of their lab members who is leaving for a postdoctoral position in NY soon. that was a good time - got to visit with folks in a non-work situation. my boss and his family were there, too (he and J's boss went to grad school together) and i got some great stories about my boss.

trip #3: left for hockey over an hour early to allow for beach traffic. (i HATE summer traffic because i inevitably get stuck in the "go home" traffic when i'm headed to hockey). anyhow, i left over an hour early and despite ridiculous hwy 17 traffic, arrived in belmont earlier than i had anticipated. Red came flying out of the rink to ask if i could help them out in the 3rd period. me? play an extra period of hockey? and for the team Steph is on? duh! got dressed in record time and was happy to skate with them. Are Too! played after that and i thought we did pretty well. the only goal was a beauty of a backhand put in by the other team, but it was still a fun game. had a blast joking around with Tracy and yammering away in general. hopefully i'll get one more game in with Are Too! before surgery.
