long weekend
can you believe it? a monday off and i didn't even dash home to visit Maddy (or my folks)!
well, for good reason. Todd, Amy, and Ollie were in town and i spent most of the weekend with them. we didn't do anything particularly special, but that's what great about seeing them. we never need to have things planned - just enjoy each other's company and have a good time even if we're just sitting around a table doing nothing. JP and Diane had a bunch of meat to bbq so we did burgers on saturday night. sadly, no corn, but i did contribute a fruit salad. we sat around the "fire pit" outside for a good portion of the night, talking about random things.
back to JP's on sunday for more qt with the humans and dogs. we headed over to the westside to take Ollie to his old favorite stomping grounds - the beach at Mitchell's cove. he ran in the ocean like crazy, chased sticks and played with other dogs. we walked along the coast afterwards, and it could have been my imagination (and Amy's), but we will both stand by the fact that he turned at the crosswalk like he was going to our old home. (note: instance #1 of me successfully holding back tears)
went for dinner at a place near our old house, though i avoided driving by the old house while Todd and Amy intentionally drove by. (instance #2 of me successfully holding back tears) this restaurant was never super busy, but on sunday it was PACKED. good to see that they're doing well. had some really tasty food and then i tried to make the bill-paying last as long as possible because i knew i was going to say goodbye to them in the parking lot. we had lingered long enough, so we headed outside. i gave Rawls (Ollie) a lot of big hugs and tons of kisses, then said goodbye to the humans. (instance #3 of me successfully holding back tears) got into the car, started to back out, then those 3 successes backfired and out came the tears. not too many, i actually held it together pretty well, but there were tears. i hate goodbyes.
of course, i know i'll see them soon, email them sooner (already done), and talk to them, but it's just not the same. they're 2 of the greatest people i've ever met and i'm lucky they are my friends. it's good that JP and Diane live in town and that i see John every day at work.
so that was my weekend. i didn't do much on monday - slept in, went up to work for a little bit, then came home and started watching season 3 of "24". Justin says that since i started watching only last season, i need to watch it to get background for the upcoming season.
overall, great weekend! :-)

i hate goodbyes too! especially if i've been having a great time. as a kid, i used to cryyyy when vacation ended, knowing i wouldn't see the people we vacationed with for a long time, if ever.
hell, i used to cry at the end of the school year because that meant i wouldn't have that teacher anymore. my mother thought someone had beat me up on the way home. i was quite a cry baby!
