aaaaargh!

i vow from this day forth to make a concerted effort to make my lab notebook as understandable as possible - not just for me, but for someone who might look at it (okay, not likely, but you never know) and try to repeat what i've done. i usually try to be good about this. i know i'm guilty of doing lots of work and keeping track of it on my "working" scratch pad and get behind of transferring it to my permanent notebook, but that's just how i do my thing.

i spent a lengthy amount of time today trying to find something in someone else's notebook. all i was looking for was very basic information about a plasmid - whenever we make one or have one sent to us, i try to make sure it has a map and all of the information is recorded. but, since there are so many plasmids from before my time here, there are tons that have no information whatsoever. so i wasted well over 90 minutes digging through 2 people's notebooks and found absolutely nothing. i'm going to try to figure out as much as i can about it, but it really bothers me that i now have to spend so much time on this when it's information that should be readily available and accessible.

follow that up with someone coming up to me saying "smell this" (a shot glass) and i oblige, and find out that it smells awful. then said person says "drink it". um, no thanks. first, i don't drink. second, i'm at work. third, no thanks. said person says "just drink it - do it, do it, do it, blah blah blah". after this i almost shout "no, i don't want it!" and then try to ignore this person as they go on saying "just try it - it's such a small amount. well, fine, don't try it, you're boring."

sure, whatever. call me boring. this person is very opinionated, which is fine of course, but this isn't what i need on a friday afternoon after spending a week helping everyone at work by myself.

BAH!!!!

Comments:
I don't blame you for not drinking the mystery drink - particularly in a lab. Did you ever find out what it was?

Keep an old hockey stick at work to ward off future stupid requests. ;)
