holiday happenings at work
a huge part of the reason why i love my job so much is because of the people i get to see and interact with on a daily basis. we are a relatively small department (which can be both good and bad) and pretty much everyone knows everyone. not quite like walking into Cheers, but close. or similar.
every year around this time, one couple (a professor and his wife) go out on their own time and purchase a huge, lovely Christmas tree and put it up in the atrium of our building. i guess it's technically a holiday tree, but i'll call it a Christmas tree. when i came to work on monday, there was the tree, standing tall and proud on the 3rd floor, but also very naked. when i was walking about yesterday, i noticed that the MCD Biology elves here at ucsc had done a great job of decorating it. the tree is all lit up and has ornaments all over it. i'll have to take a picture.
one of the plants on my floor has also found itself decorated with candy canes and ornaments. it's pretty cute.
