weekend recap

for some reason it felt like last week went by in a ridiculously slow fashion. i'm hoping this week is not a repeat!

went to see Spike and Mike's Sick and Twisted Festival of Animation downtown on friday night with Justin and Tiffani. it was my first time seeing it, and yes, it was very sick and very twisted. also damn funny.

slept in a bit on saturday, then rollerbladed around a bit with Justin in the afternoon. it's amazing how different rollerblades are when compared with ice hockey skates. i can't stop or turn very well in rollerblades. it's all very strange. but, still fun. there's this big parking lot near our house and we go there - i had told J that i had seen pickup roller hockey there. there are also some homemade nets that are shoved off to one side, so he left a note for them to email him info about when they played. well, the note is still there and apparently we're the only people who use the nets! it's sad for him because he has played every sunday for the past 9 years, so i'll try to be good about going with him and finding others to come join us.

went to the Sharks game saturday night and J came along and was able to get a ticket. unfortuately, he didn't get to sit near me, but it was okay - at least he got to go. pretty sloppy play from both teams at times, and my Sharkies came out on the losing end. sigh. at least i don't have to continue my routines that were going on during their 5 game winning streak. (nothing crazy, just stuff i had to remember to do).

headed to LoTech for the AT2 game afterwards. i was sad because i had gotten a call from Andrea saying that she wasn't going to make it to the game. boooooo! but, we walked into the locker room, and who was there? not just Andrea, but Liz, too! wooT! J played D and of course, i did not. we won something to something, had a good time. Andrea was totally en fuego - a beautiful goal - lifting the puck and everything. i cheered like an asshole.

slept in a bit again today, then finally got motivated to go shopping for shoes since the inside heels of my current sneaks are totally worn through, causing very uncomfortable plastic to dig into my heel. i've been threatening to get new shoes for over a month now, and finally did today. went to OSH so J could look for PVC pipe to make a net and i finally got a tarp to protect airing-out hockey gear from the rain. i wanted to do this last year, but it was just my stuff and i could jam it into the corner of the deck and it would stay mostly dry. now that there are 3 sets of gear that need to air out, a tarp is definitely needed.

stopped by power play on our way up to belmont to get skates sharpened, but the guy was swamped and couldn't do ours. will try again on tuesday.

wow, most of our team was here for the game tonight, and it was so much fun! played with Nora's squad and we had a great team effort. congrats to Tiffani for her first 2 assistessess and to Andrea for 2 more awesome goals. Amy played her first full game in net and did great coming away (yawa!) with a win for her efforts.

just got back from dinner with Liz, Andrea, Susan, Jennie and Graham, and many more from the green division. can't wait to see everyone right back at it on tuesday!

i was telling Justin how i always had my two feet parallel and in the same plane whenever i turned. he (and many others) can do the power turn/tight turn and i uh, can't. well, we talked about it a bit and i actually did mini little power turns tonight! oddly enough, the way i can do it is clockwise, which is the way i'm less comfortable turning otherwise. huh. well, i'll try it again on tuesday!

Comments:
Woot! Power turns! Congrats!

My crossovers/power turns are like that too. I crossover left, but power turn right. *shrugs*

heh, thanks!

i don't think it can technically be called a power turn yet, as it's more of the "very low wattage" turn right now. but at least i have the motion somewhat down!

OK, so... how *do* you turn/stop in rollerblades? I just got my first pair and realized I'm gonna kill myself if I don't figure these things out first. That, and get really good safety equipment.

I put my rollerblades away after I started on ice. I'd kill myself on them now! Yeah, Cheddah, how DO you manage?

I hear ya on the low wattage turns (lol!). I low wattage turn left. :)

whoa, i didn't mean to imply that i could stop or turn! i'm still working on both of those, and think i'll need some butt padding before i really try either.

Viv - most of my turns (power/tight or regular) are low wattage!

whatchoo talking about, willis? i totally saw you do a turn to the left...you spread your feet out, did a little turn and then looked to your bro as if to say, "hey, i did it!" i was jealous. =)
