this lovely machine chooses to do one (or more) of the following at least once a day:
stoopid computer always manages to start my day off in a bad way.
this lovely machine chooses to do one (or more) of the following at least once a day:
- freezes for no reason. see #3.
- all usb devices stop working seconds after they were just working. see #3.
- after encoutering scenarios 1 or 2, "force quit" and "restart" don't work. in the case of scenario 2, this is because i can't use the damn keyboard to do anything.
- upon holding the inconveniently located "power" button for what seems like an eternity, the computer finally restarts but then freezes at the blue screen of death.
- repeat scenario 4, except it freezes after loading my desktop image.
- repeat scenario 4, except i move the mouse 2 inches and then it freezes.
- kernel panic. this is a whole other beautiful topic by itself but i won't raise my blood pressure any higher than it currently is by going into it.

heh, yeah, it's quite a pain.
now the memory i bought in feb. seems to be going bad - every time i reboot, the computer sees varying amounts of RAM in that slot - and we're not talking ordinary amounts. it's a 512 chip and right now it sees 384. interesting.

I would bet a lot of money that all your problems stem from the bad memory. Can you pull it and still work?
i could, but would only be at 128 mb. i'd get new memory, but then i'm still only operating at 700 MHz - still gonna try running the new computer (a lappy!) idea by my boss...
