weekend happenings
hrmmm, what did i do this weekend?
friday night: i honestly can't remember. obviously it was highly entertaining.
saturday: went up to lab for a little while in the morning. putzed around and sighed a lot because it looks like my experiment from last week didn't work so well. i finished sighing and headed down to the field for a friendly game of softball - the final event of the departmental "olympics". the turnout was pretty good and at one point i found myself playing second base with nobody but PIs surrounding me in the infield. it was pretty amusing. we fought a good fight, even rallied for 3 runs in our last inning, but lost 14-13. ah well. it was a good game and most everybody was in good spirits throughout. there are always one or two folks who make it their mission to turn a friendly softball game into the most important thing ever, but everyone else was great.
i went down to the beach around 3:00 for my boss' 40th birthday bash. he had a bunch of friends in town - i had met some of them before, some i had only heard stories about. it was a fun time...watched some people attempt to surf, hung out with everbody's kids, stayed for the bbq followed by really good raspberry cake, and even lingered to enjoy some of the bonfire. wow, i can't even remember the last time i was at a bonfire. partly because it's been a long time, partly because i'm just not much of a beach person.
got home and was going to play some tony hawk2 but instead read some more of harry potter.
sunday: had a nice coughing fit that lasted from 2:04 - 2:37 (yes, i noted the times) and slept in a bit. read more of potterrrrrrrr and then motivated to vacuum the house. i am so happy with my new vacuum - it really sucks, in a good way. the combination of the good suckage and relatively new carpet filled up a vacuum cleaner bag really fast.
i watched the giants game and fussed over my fantasy baseball team in the afternoon. the fantasy league is in playoff mode right now, and my team finished 4th overall (out of 10 teams). my brother finished ahead of me in 3rd place....grrr! we both won our playoff rounds this week, but in order for us to meet in the championship, i'll have to beat the #1 seed and he'll have to beat the #2 seed. i think there's a good chance he will win this week, but while i'm hopeful, i dont' know if my team will be able to win. i just finished up with some roster tinkering - feel guilty about dropping one guy (because he's a Giant and i've had him all season) but i need more offense! of course, now that i've dropped him, he'll do great.
went to the first "conditioning session" of the ncwhl green season tonight with Tiffani. i'm so glad she joined the league. she looked great tonight, as did the other newbies. the turnout was very low and i'm hoping we'll have more folks to fill out the division - otherwise it's going to be a season filled with games played 4-on-4 with short benches. it was really fun being out on the ice again...amazing how 2 weeks can feel like an eternity. we had fun with the drills, then scrimmaged a bit. lots of collisions and falling (not all during the scrimmage), but everyone was okay. *snicker* i snicker only because Andrea is otay.
went to get food with Andrea and TQ afterwards, now i'm off to read some more potterrrrr!
