Molly
hard to believe it's been exactly 3 years and 1 day since i last saw Molly. i was home for the weekend and on sunday the 14th, my mom and i were out working on the front path and Molly was, as always, right at our side. she wasn't her usual self though. i could tell that something was different but had to go to work the next day. i would give anything to have stayed in Monterey that night, just to spend a few more hours with Molly. she didn't even want to sleep inside the house that last night, and if you knew my Molly, she was always anxious to go back inside the house.
my mom called me the next morning around 7 am to tell me that Molly had died. just thinking about that moment still brings tears to my eyes and makes my heart hurt so much. i was going to wait until i calmed down a bit before i drove home, but i could only wait an hour or so. i don't know how i made it from santa cruz to my parent's home. it was one of those trips that i have absolutely no recollection of - scary now that i think about it because i don't even remember being in the car.
my poor dad had to go to work, but my mom and i spent the day together. we thought about Molly and smiled some, laughed a little, but mostly cried. i sat at the place in the patio where my mom found her that morning and to this day, make sure i say hi to Molly at that spot whenever i'm home.
i miss my girl so much, but am also so thankful for the 15 tears we had together. i think about her every day, and those thoughts never fail to bring a smile to my face.
i love you, Molly.

Oh Cheddah. I know how that is. I'm glad you can smile at some of the memories, even though your little heart is still broken.
I'm so glad Molly brought you so much joy for so many years. I wish I'd been able to meet her. Take care. It is really hard.
