weekend happenings
friday night: nada
saturday: Sharon was in town so we went to lunch with Lily and TQ, walked around a bit downtown, then S came back to my place and we chatted and gossiped while Lily and Axel went to a birthday party. went back to Lily's for dinner, which was excellent! hung out with Grant, Lily, and Axel, then had to leave for hockey.
made it to LoTech and got onto the ice around 12:00 in the first period after leaving late and then fighting through beach traffic. i dressed in record time but still missed 8 minutes of the game. we had a full bench so i ended up floating through the lines which turned out okay. Liz and i were going crazy with the buzzer sound (which carried through to sunday, hence the movie). we lost 3-2 but it was a relatively fun game, and we made lots of buzzer sounds.
sorry to have to miss Jedi H's bbq and fondue, though. i hear it was lots of fun and that there was lots of cheese. mmmmmm.
sunday: came up to lab for about 1 minute - just had to change a buffer - and then headed to the field for a going away bbq for Val and Jack. we played a fun frisbee game and Karen taught me how to correctly throw a frisbee so it doesn't fly every which way. it was hot there but a good time was had by all.
i left early to head to Power Play to have my skates sharpened for the first time since the GAB. i was tempted to tell the guy to keep them on the not-so-sharp side, but i just went for it. and it turned out okay, i think. i'm realizing that things that i think will worry me end up being fine, so i just need to go with it. after skate sharpening, i went up to Hockey XSport because they always have Jills in stock, unlike every other hockey place on the peninsula. i guess it would have been cheaper to get it online instead of driving up to Oakland, but i had time and i also got to check out helmets.
i like the CCM HT500, which has an extra protecto strap in the back of the helmet, but i don't like the tool-less adjustmetn. i think i'm going to get the 1052. lighter than what i have now, and it's a good fit. now do i get a new cage or just use what i have? i'm tempted to try a cage with a chrome finish instead of the black that i have now, but do i really need to?
arrived in Belmont early for my game, but got to watch Steph and Susi's team play. i chatted with Red about his life as a goalie, the fuzzies, etc. good to catch up with him. my game was fun despite the fact that i forgot my snorkeling gear. got to play with Andrea again, which was awesome. i hope i get to play with her all the time. Susan put 2 in the net in the first period and we ended up winning 5-1, i think, despite some incredibly awesome saves by Eileen.
that was my weekend. a busy one, but fun and exercise-filled, which is what i need to do more of.
