the things you hear at public skate...
went to public skate tonight and realized that it had only been 22 hours since i'd last been at the rink...yay, because i love skating around, but boo, because i'm damn tired!
anyhooo, i went with TQ and Will, a friend from work. Will was excited because he recently brought his skates back from "home" in wisconsin. after a tasty dinner at in 'n out, we made it to the rink and all i have to say is that Will sucks. that is, he sucks because he hasn't skated for so long yet he was tearing it up. and here i am, trying my hardest, and 4 year olds are still out-skating me! but it was a lot of fun. i am pretty comfortable doing a right over left crossover at public skate, but why i can't do it during a game is beyond me. maybe because i'm not consciously thinking to do it? but back to Will - he rocked! then again, when you grow up in wisconsin with a pond in your backyard and have skated since the age of 6, i guess it makes sense that you can kick ass out there. but still!
the most amusing/disturbing/annoying/frightening thing happened when i was changing back into shorts. i'm in the women's bathroom and i overhear 2 people having this conversation:
woman #1: yeah, so-and-so won't date anyone unless they're Christian.
woman #2: oh really?
woman #1: yup. if she meets him and he's Christian, she'll go out with him. but if
he's not, she won't go out with him.
woman #2: you know, so what is someone if they're not Christian?
woman #1: um, retarded?
and woman #1 was not kidding.
hearing that made me run through an extreme of emotions from sadness to pity to anger. i could rant but i won't. i'll just say that it's sad (to me, at least) that there are such closed-minded people in this world. and i'm glad that my friends are not like that.
