saturday goings-on

pretty mellow day today. unfortunately, not so great for one of my dear friends, but that's a different story that i won't go into.

the weekend got off to a great start last night when Tiffani and i babysat Axel. he was such a champ. he cried a bit once it really sank in that his mom and dad (and grandma and grandpa) were gone, and he walked to the garage door looking for his mom. but once i took him back upstairs and asked if he wanted to play with his trains, he was more than happy to oblige. what is the appeal of Thomas the Tank Engine with kids today? yeah, trains are cool and all - i remember playing with my Brio train set (or watching my brother play with it) but why is Thomas so special? anyhow, Axel was so cute. i had gotten him a stuffed-animal yeast from giantmicrobes.com. you know, it's only appropriate that he be introduced to it early on since it's his dad's work and brings home the paycheck. :-) so he got the yeast earlier in the week and Grant (Axel's dad) said that Axel had been taking it into the crib with him at night. Awwwww! and he can even say "yeast", which comes out more like "east", but he knows what he's talking about.

so, quality time with Axel and it was great. i don't think i stopped smiling while i was over there.

i decided yesterday that even though i was in town this weekend, i wasn't going to lab. and i did well today - didn't go! slept in, did some laundry, puttered around the house, and just got back from seeing "fever pitch". it was a fun movie - maybe more so for me with all of the baseball in it, but it was pretty cute.

my plans for tomorrow are to get my mom's mother's day presents, then head to Fremont for hockey at 4. after game 1, In 'N Out for dinner. then on to San Jose for game 2. should be home by 11:30, and since Arrested Development is done for the season (hopefully just the season) i can shower and go straight to bed. then a short week before denvernating!
